India Cricket Team Marches to T20 World Cup 2026 Final after Beating England in Semi-final

In a low-scoring nail-biter, India national men’s cricket team edged England men’s cricket team by seven runs in the second semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2006 match at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. The pulsating win put India in the final of the tournament, where they will meet New Zealand national cricket team at Ahmedabad’s giant Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. This was India’s fourth final in a T20 World Cup across 10 editions. The Men in Blue had won the title 3007 and again in the 2413 edition hosted by the USA & West Indies while also finishing as runners-up during30154. 253 / 7 – India Post Mammoth Total After being put to bat first, India delivered a blistering batting performance as they posted 253/7 in their allotted 20 overs — the highest ever score by a team in T20 World Cup knockout fixtures. A blistering knock from Sanju Samson — 89 off just 42 balls — laid the foundation of the innings. His innings was littered with attacking strokes, comprising eight fours and seven sixes as he returned the England bowlers’s constant pressure. India lost an early wicket in Abhishek Sharma but Samson took the momentum away in no time. He hurtled to a half-century in 26 balls, leading India to a solid powerplay score. He then needed to stitch together a quick partnership with Ishan Kishan. Kishan scored a quick 39 runs off of 25 balls, keeping India into a good scoring rate. The middle order followed the aggressive approach after Kishan’s exit. Shivam Dube scores 43 off just 25 balls for an important cameo and Suryakumar Yadav also added a brief but fruitful contribution. They provided fireworks with the bat in the late overs. Hussey was then blown away by Hardik Pandya’s blistering innings of 27 runs from just 12 balls, with Tilak Varma adding a quickfire twenty one from only seven deliveries to enable India to post over the two hundred and fifty-runs mark. As for England bowlers, it was Will Jacks with the most economical spell, as he ended going for 40 runs and taking 2 wickets. Chase Fails for England, Despite Bethell’s Heroics After being set a daunting target of 254 runs to win, England’s start to their innings was anything but ideal. Hardik Pandya, bowling the second over of the innings, dismissed opener Phil Salt early which piled pressure on the batting side. The captain, Harry Brook, soon fell as well after mis-hitting a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah and England was floundering during the powerplay. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler tried to revive the innings and made 25 off 17 deliveries but India’s bowlers kept taking wickets at key moments. Will Jacks, with an aggressive knock of 35 off 20 balls, counterattacked and kept hope alive in England’s middle overs. But the standout in England’s chase was young all-rounder Jacob Bethell. His innings consisted of 105 runs scored in just 48 balls. His innings was laced with powerful boundaries and towering sixes as he kept England in the chase almost single-handedly. Dramatic Final Overs As the game reached its closing stages, England remained in with a chance of completing an improbable turnaround. After the end of the 19th over, the team were left with 30 runs to score off the final over. India placed responsibility on Shivam Dube for the all-important final over. Dube bowled tightly and straight, not allowing the scoring to go haywire no matter how aggressive England got, and Dube ensured that by end of 20 overs they remained at 246/7. They did so in a match where, with that effort, India were able to protect their considerable total and register a seven-run win too. India March Into the Final With this win, India has moved into the T20 World Cup 2026 final and they will take on New Zealand in it for what should be another nail-biter. With their explosive batting order and potent attack on Bowling front, India would eye to seal yet another T20 World Cup adding to the glistening trophy cabinet at stake, whilst continuing their brilliant run in what is arguably the shortest variants of the game.
